This dataset provides global gridded monthly SPEI-6 data for 1981–2025 at 0.05° spatial resolution, calculated using climatological precipitation (Prclm) from MSWEP and CHIRPS and observed atmospheric evaporative demand (AED) from GLEAM and hPET. The SPEI data based on observed Pr and AED are available at: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23098969.
