Investigating the inheritance of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in pigs derived from mitochondrial supplementation using whole mtDNA genome and amplicon sequencing.

Pigs derived from oocytes supplemented with extra copies of mitochondrial DNA at the time of fertilisation may be heteroplasmic. In this respect, they could contain two populations of mitochondrial DNA. This project aims to determine the patterns of inheritance of these mitochondrial populations in a pig model. Furthermore, it seeks to determine if the presence of two populations of mitochondrial DNA has an impact on an animal's phenotype and health and well-being.
