A dataset of the bird species list in Wuchang lake wetland in Anhui province

Birds are important components of biodiversity and often serve as important indicators of ecosystem health. Wuchang Lake is an important part of the Anqing Yangjiang Wetland Provincial Nature Reserve and an important stopover and wintering site for migratory waterbirds along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. In this paper, based on the field surveys from 2022 to 2024, combined with literature and other data sources, we compiled a dataset of bird species list in Wuchang Lake Wetland in Anhui province. This dataset has been reviewed and validated by leading domestic ornithologists and includes 200 bird species, spanning in 121genus, 46 families and 17 orders. In addition, the dataset provides detailed information for each species, including Chinese species name, Latin species name, Latin genus name, Chinese family name, Latin family name, Chinese order name, Latin order name, protection class (national key protected species category, Anhu provincial protection category, and the list of terrestrial wild animals with significant ecological, scientific, and social value), IUCN Red List, China Biodiversity Red List, data sources, residency types and frequency of occurrence. Through comprehensive mapping and monitoring of bird species, the dataset provides data support for the protection of bird diversity and the collaborative conservation of bird populations in Wuchang Lake Wetland, as well as for designating the wetland as an internationally important wetland and for applying for its designation as a national nature reserve.
