It comes as little surprise that birthing takes up the largest value in one-time costs of owning dogs. At 100 thousand Indian rupees, dog breeding in India had become a booming business because of the preference of dog breeds that are not native to the country like German Shepherds, Labradors or Golden Retrievers. Native breeds have either ceased to exist or are disappearing rapidly, in spite of efforts by dog rescue organizations encouraging adoptions of Indian breeds.
