A cabinet card photograph of R. Botello, Johnson Photo Company, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, 1892 September 18. The full-length portrait shows the subject standing with one foot crossed over the other and resting one hand against a chair covered with an animal skin while the other is held behind his back. He wears a long, high-buttoned dark coat with a white handkerchief in the breast pocket, dark boots and trousers, a white shirt and a dark tie. It is assumed this is Refugio Botello, Jr. (1867-1900), whose father was a butcher in Los Angeles and implicated for direct involvement in the Chinese Massacre of 24 October 1871. With soiling, stains, fading and edge rubbing, the condition is poor to fair.
