These datasets provide detailed measurements of seed traits, germination responses, and morphological and physiological functional traits of two Andean plant species collected across contrasting environmental conditions. The data are directly relevant because they document how Andean plants respond to differences in seed provenance and osmotic stress. These processes strongly influence ecosystem composition, resilience, and biogeochemical cycling under climate change. Data set 1. Seed characteristics This dataset includes quantitative measurements of seed traits, such as seed weight, seed size, seed moisture content, and seed viability, for Oreocallis grandiflora and Salvia corrugata collected from wet and dry provenances. The dataset is small in size (tens to hundreds of records) and suitable for long-term preservation in its entirety. Data set 2. Seed germination This dataset contains experimental germination data, including germination percentage and time to germination under different osmotic stress treatments and provenances. The dataset is small in size (eighty records) and captures key experimental outcomes relevant to early plant establishment and stress responses. Data set 3. Morphological and physiological functional traits This dataset includes morphological and physiological trait measurements of seedlings, such as plant height, leaf area, above- and belowground biomass allocation, and physiological variables including stomatal conductance, stem water potential, and relative water content. The dataset is moderate in size and provides trait-level information on seedling responses to osmotic stress and provenance. All three data packages are relatively small and manageable in size. No data subsetting is required, as all variables contribute directly to the scientific value, reproducibility, and reuse potential of the datasets.
