<b>Background. </b>Our manuscript is titled as “Is potential suitable habitat increasing for <i>Oreocharis mileensis</i> (Gesneriaceae)? A plant species with extremely small populations endemic to China”. <i>Oreocharis mileensis</i>, also known as the Yunnan resurrection plant, is a species primarily found in the Yunnan province of China. This plant is of particular concern due to its extremely small population size, leading to its inclusion in the list of plant species with extremely small populations (PSESP) in 2010 by the Yunnan provincial government and in 2012 by the National Forestry Administration of China. As a result, urgent conservation actions are necessary to protect and preserve this species. Despite the recognition of its endangered status, there has no research on the suitable habitats for <i>O. mileensis</i>. To address this knowledge gap and guide conservation efforts, the researchers employed advanced species distribution modelling approaches.<b>Significance. </b>Through our analysis, we determined that the future distribution of <i>O. mileensis</i> is likely to expand towards the north of its current distribution range. Several factors were identified as playing a crucial role in determining the suitable habitat for <i>O. mileensis</i>. These factors include topography roughness (TR), plant height, potential evaporation during the coldest quarter (PETColdestQuarter), climate moisture (climaticMoistureIndex), and precipitation during the wettest quarter (Bio16). Understanding the influence of these variables is essential for effective conservation planning and protection measures. In this manuscript, we not only discuss the significance of these variables but also provide insights into the general habitat requirements for <i>O. mileensis</i>. The interaction particular level of these variables provides desired suitable habitat making special microclimate for this species. By identifying and understanding these requirements, conservationists can better target their efforts towards preserving suitable habitats and ensuring the survival of this endangered species.
