Poster: Research Data Management Framework for biomedical consortia at University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG)

The UMG actively participates in diverse interdisciplinary research consortia, which generate heterogeneous biomedical datasets with immense potential. However, effectively managing and sharing these data across institutions and disciplines remains a challenge. Since 2012, our group develops custom-made research data management frameworks for biomedical consortia involved in both basic and translational research. Our approach involves the re-use, adaptation and development of suitable data-sharing tools to implement a bottom-up FAIRification (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reproducible) process. In addition to the curation of published data, we focus on early and comprehensive data sharing within consortia because we believe this offers a double benefit: (1) It fosters synergistic effects, leading to more rapid scientific progress and (2) it familiarizes researchers with data sharing advantages and facilitates standardization from the outset, reducing barriers for future public data release. As this approach depends significantly on the collaboration of individual researchers and Principal Investigators, we integrate them in an agile and iterative process, from initial planning to implementation. We also provide targeted training and consulting on various topics relevant to the data lifecycle, equipping researchers with the knowledge and skills to actively contribute to the FAIRification of their data. Eventually, we actively promote networking opportunities for data management personnel in diverse settings, as exemplified by this very poster.
