Fungal community composition in plant roots from an old-field site

Below-ground plant-fungal interactions are important because of their potential to influence plant communities. Field studies linking abundance and geographic origin of plants in natural communities with below-ground fungal communities are missing. We hypothesized that abundant and rare plants, either native or exotic, from an old-field site would associate with different fungal communities. Therefore, plant roots were investigated using 454 pyrosequencing to reveal their fungal communities.
