Provincial food demand dataset for China from 2002 to 2020

The dataset of provincial-level food demand in China is based on statistical data and takes into account the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of farming practices. It provides annual estimates of food demand from 2002 to 2020 for 31 provinces (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) across six major categories: urban and rural food consumption, feed grain, seed grain, industrial use, waste and loss, and grain for storage. The dataset consists of eight data items: urban food consumption, rural food consumption, feed grain demand, seed grain demand, industrial grain demand, waste and loss, grain for storage, and total grain demand—the latter being the sum of the previous seven components. All values represent raw grain demand, measured in 10,000 tons. The temporal coverage spans from 2002 to 2020 with annual data entries, and the spatial resolution is at the provincial level. The file size is 80 KB and the format is .xlsx.
