Cyclocarya paliurus, a native rare dicotyledonous plant in China, is abundant in triterpenoid saponins and flavonoid glycosides that are beneficial to prevent and treat hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes mellitus. However, the molecular mechanism involved in biosynthesis of triterpenoid saponins and flavonoidglycosides in C. paliurus is still unclear. In this study, the content of triterpenes in different tissues and the expression pattern of key enzyme genes involved in triterpenoid saponins and flavonoid glycosides biosynthesis were determined using transcriptome and metabolome analysis.
