Supplementary Materials for a Rapid Review of Synthetic Data Publication Workflows

This dataset contains the study-level materials underlying the rapid review of synthetic data publication workflows conducted as part of the doctoral thesis “Model-Agnostic Quality Improvement for Synthetic Tabular Clinical Data Generation and Publication.” The literature search was conducted on 14 April 2025 in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore. The search identified 3,784 records, of which 2,157 remained after duplicate removal. Following title and abstract screening, 192 publications underwent full-text assessment, and 97 publications were included in the final review. The Excel workbook contains four worksheets: Meta: bibliographic metadata of the reviewed records; FT Screening: full-text inclusion decisions and final exclusion reasons; Data Extraction: study-level characteristics and coded elements of the synthetic data generation and publication workflows; Analyse: aggregate counts and relative frequencies reported in the thesis. Screening and data extraction were performed by Waldemar Hahn. Publications with ambiguous coding decisions were additionally reviewed by Markus Wolfien.
