Parents Adaptively Adjust Timing and Musical Complexity in Object-Use Demonstrations during Early Triadic Interactions (Dataset, Code, and Report)

Repository Overview: Data, Analysis Files, and Variable Descriptions This repository hosts the data, code, and results report for the paper “Parents Adaptively Adjust Timing and Musical Complexity in Object-Use Demonstrations during Early Triadic Interactions.” File overview and analysis instructions The dataset is provided in two formats—.RDS and .csv—for convenience. The reproducible report (data_analysis_report.Rmd) uses the .RDS file, which preserves data types and structures required for the analysis. The dataset includes six variables, with each row representing a coded behavior. All entries correspond to object-use demonstrations performed by adults using a maraca during early triadic interactions with their infants. To reproduce the full analysis, open the .Rmd file and run the code blocks, ensuring the .RDS file is in the same directory. A ready-to-view HTML version of the report (data_analysis_report.html) is also included. The three figures featured in the manuscript (i.e., plot_freq.png, plot_dur.png, and plot_dur_ranef.png) are generated by the report and included separately for convenience. Variable overview (Full definitions are available in the manuscript) tlength: Total length of the recorded triadic interaction (adult–object–infant), in seconds. age: Age of the infant in months. s: Unique ID for each parent–infant dyad. type: Type of object-use demonstration by the adult—either did (distant demonstration) or imde (immediate demonstration). level: Musical structuring level of the demonstration, ranging from 1 (least structured) to 3 (most structured). dur: Duration of the demonstration, in seconds.
