Geospatial data about watercraft movements in Alaska freshwater from a statewide survey with watercraft owners in 2018

A survey with Alaska's watercraft owners was conducted. This dataset used an online mapping tool to collect identify boat movements across Alaska’s coastlines and river systems. Historically, little research has investigated the extent of boats being used for personal transportation, recreation, and subsistence use across this vast landscape. Consequently, the human pathway of transmitting aquatic invasive species (AIS) by boats has not been quantified. Results from a statewide survey with registered boat owners provide geospatial and statistical information to inform policy response on AIS. Policy implications aimed at preventing the introduction of new AIS and the spread of existing AIS are discussed.
