Complex concentrated alloys (CCA) containing multiple, nearly equimolar elements are currently receiving great attention in innovative alloy design. Owing to their unique composition and multi-phase microstructure, CCAs may realize unconventional, superior properties such as excellent mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, thermal stability, and soft magnetic properties amongst others, making them candidates for green applications i.e. electric motors. We have been investigating the CoFeNi0.5Cr0.5Alx system which for high Al compositions forms FeCr nano-precipitates (NP). In this study we will determine the size and composition of the NP’s using SANS. Furthermore the magnetic field dependence of this system will allow us to determine the characteristic magnetic characteristics of the sample. Such insights thereby allowing us to further refine and understand this new alloy class.
