Fishing, preparing grain, birds, 1933. “Morgana 1933 cruise” – container. Silent. Black-and-white. Velero III moored off an island, several fishing scenes (eel, barracuda, puffer, et al.), local women preparing grain, and birds (boobies?). Captain Allan Hancock is present. 18 frames per second. 180.9 feet. Not on reel/core; double-perforation; emulsion out; black-and-white; positive; MOS (no synchronous audio track). Severe curling/shrinkage. Arrived tails-out. Portion near head clipped -- not transferred -- due to shrinkage. Image appears to flicker.The reference to “Morgana” on the canister is obscure. The Velero III expedition of 1933 (29 December 1932 – 23 March 1933) included stops in Mexico, Panama, Malpelo Island, Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands, and Costa Rica. “Morgana” may be a misreading of Marchena, one of the Galápagos Islands. “Morgana” may alternatively be a misreading of the surname of acquaintances of Captain Allan Hancock, Mr. and Mrs. Philip N. [W.?] Morgan, who sailed with Hancock on a pleasure cruise of the Oaxaca in June 1927 north from Los Angeles to Alaska. However, the Morgans were not on the 1933 cruise of the Velero III.
