Northern Hemisphere permafrost SOC is environmentally sensitive, with chemical composition determining its stability and sequestration potential. However, the specific drivers and their relative impacts, which vary with soil horizons, are poorly understood. We conducted field sampling across the Great Xing’an Mountain to examine how the climatic, edaphic, plant, and microbial factors influence on SOC by regulating the chemical composition between two soil horizons.
