Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo (Orchidaceae) is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant and has been listed as endangered plants. Dendrobine is the mainly bioactive constituent in D.officinale. In this study,we report the ESTs in D.officinale use of the high-throughput sequencing technology. This 454-EST dataset from D.officinale stem contribute significantly to provide a large number of transcripts for gene discovery and molecular breeding in D.officinale. Discovery genes use a combination methods of sequence annotation, transcripts expression profiling and chemical catalytic features prediction can deeply dig target genes of the dendrobine biosynthesis pathway.
