VPRS 11767 Visiting Justices' Register

Section 120 of the Social Welfare Act 1970 (No.8089) allows for the appointment of Visiting Justices through the Governor in Council. A visiting justice was to, in rotation with other visiting justices, visit a prison not more than once a week and make reports to the governor-in-council as required.This series also contains entries pertaining to prisoners applications and complaints to the visiting justice. VPRS 10930 Prisoners Application to Visiting Justice 1928-1942 also contains similar information.Entries in the volumes include the date of the hearing, details of the charge/complaint, name of the visiting justice, decision and the signature of the particular visiting justice.
