Lindenwood Nature Preserve Plant Survey

<p>We established 30 plot locations within Lindenwood Nature Preserve. Within a 5x5 m plot centered on the plot location, we randomly located two 1 m² quadrats. Within each quadrat, we identified and counted each understory plant (<u><</u> 1 m height). Within a 10x10 m plot centered on the plot location, we counted and identified midstory plant (> 1 m height, < 8 cm diameter at breast height [dbh, 1.37 m above soil surface]). We collected each newly encountered understory and midstory species and deposited the voucher in the Purdue University Fort Wayne Department of Biological Sciences herbarium. Within a 15x15 m plot centered on the plot location, we counted, identified, and measured dbh for all overstory plants. At the plot center and all plot corners, we measured litter depth and percent canopy cover (concave spherical densiometer).</p>
