资源简介:
Photograph of the Southern Pacific Long Wharf, or Mile Long Pier, Pacific Palisades, ca.1893. This perspective is from the shore looking toward the end. Several ships are docked at the end. Several other ships are in the ocean around the end. Two sets of railroad tracks run the length of the warf. A series of loaded railroad cars is visible on one of the tracks. Several pedestrians are visible on the wharf a short distance from the shore. In the foreground the railroad tracks running parallel to the coastline are visible as is a train on a parallel track. Construction on the wharf began in 1892 and was completed in 1894 and, at the time, it was the longest wharf in the world. The pier is 4700 feet long.
