The context of contemporary doctoral education is a globalised world where graduates need to engage appropriately with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. In this chapter, we provide an overview of the internationalisation of education which has been shaped by economic, cultural, geopolitical, and technological changes in recent decades. Through this discussion, we highlight that intercultural competence has become a key skill for doctoral graduates.
