The strain was isolated from Dishui lake, Shanghai, China. The strain was the 9th colony during the experiment hence the strain name DSL9. The genus is named Halofacultas since the strain is a facultative (-facultas) halophilic (halo-) given it is not lysed in distilled water and is found in a freshwater environment with 0.04% salinity. The strain is given the name rosaggregus given its vibrant orange-red color (rosa-) and have a tendency to aggregate (-aggregus) during liquid medium culture. The two words are both considered feminine.
