Development and Implementation of a Suicide Prevention Checklist to Create a Safe Environment.

The checklist contributed to the creation of a safe environment while caring for potentially suicidal patients in the nonpsychiatric inpatient unit and guided. Overall, safety incidences decreased by 42% (5) in 2018 when compared with that in the year 2014. The number of patients who sustained temporary or minor injuries also decreased from 2014 to 2018, by 57%. When used in the nonpsychiatric inpatient units, the SSIPCL provides clinicians with a structured approach to creating a safe environment. It helped ensure that the environment was monitored effectively and served as a communication tool to identify risk points in a consistent approach during handoffs to other clinical staff.
