Multidrug-resistant (MDR) enterobacterial species were isolated from Philippine native chicken (Joloanon) raised at a national swine and poultry research and development center, which provides native chicken breeds to local farmers as potential source of income. The detection of multidrug-resistant strains suggests the presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes in the farm, which can be transmitted to naive animals, humans, and other farms.In this study, whole genome sequence (WGS) analysis was conducted to determine the antibiotic resistome and virulence profile of a multidrug-resistant Enterobacter cloacae from Joloanon chicken gut. The results of this study illustrate the presence and potential transmission of various AMR genes in the farm where the native chicken is raised, highlighting the need for antimicrobial stewardship and infection control programs.
