Expression data from two neutrophil subsets during murine paramyxovirus type 1 infection

Two subsets of neutrophils, separated by CD49d expression, are present in the airways of mice during an acute respiratory infection from murine paramyxovirus type 1 (SeV). We used microarrays to compare the transcriptomes of these two subsets to look for up-regulated or down-regulated genes that would account for the seemingly different funtions of the neutrophil subsets. Bronchial alveolar lavage of mice infected with murine paramyxovius type 1 were collected on day 3 post-inoculation. Cell pellets were stained for Gr-1 (clone RB6-8C5) and CD49d (clone R1-2)and flow-sorted into either Gr-1+/CD49d+ or Gr-1+/CD49d- fractions. RNA was extracted from each flow-sorted fraction and hybridized on Affymetrix microarrays. Gene expression was compared between the two fractions.
