This project aimed to elucidate how the retron Ec86 system detects invading phages through isolating phage mutants that evade the Ec86 defense (escaper phages). We selected the phage KarlJaspers strain Hzau42 (phage K42) from the Hzau phage collection for the generation of escaper phages. We isolated and sequenced four escaper mutants of phage K42.
