Microorganisms play crucial roles in global iodine cycling through oxidation, reduction, volatilization, and deiodination. In contrast to the production of iodate by iodine-oxidizing bacteria in oxidizing groundwater, the microbial contribution to the genesis of iodide dominant in reducing groundwater is poorly understood. This project aims to understand microbial roles in the formation of high level of iodide in deep r groundwater across Cangzhou in the North China Plain by metagenomic sequencing.
