We performed two comprehensive, global meta-analyses of N2O emission fluxes and EFs in 539 fertilization experiments and of the relationships between soil pH, denitrification gene abundance estimates and N2O flux data based on 289 field studies. In addition, three field experiments with acid additions were analyzed to further evaluate the effects of manipulating soil acidity to identify relationships between soil pH and N2O EFs, and disentangle the linkages among soil pH, community composition and activities of denitrifying microorganisms, and N2O EFs.
