Illumina sequencing of perennial ryegrass, Lolium perenne

We used Illumina sequencing of single and paired end, mate-pair, and long-jumping distance libraries (over 200-fold coverage) to construct a reference assembly of a tenth generation inbred line of Lolium perenne, perennial ryegrass. The assembly comprises 424,750 scaffolds, covering 1.11 Gbp of the 2.5 Gbp perennial ryegrass genome, with a scaffold N50 of 25,212 and a contig N50 of 3,790. This assembly is used as a reference for a high density SNP-based genetic linkage map in an F2 mapping population that has been used as a reference population in numerous studies.
