Adult Use of Tobacco Survey, 1986

<p>This survey was designed to provide nationally representative estimates of tobacco products usage, knowledge, and attitudes and beliefs for the noninstitutionalized civilian population of the U.S. who were 17 years old and older. The sample size includes 4,700 then-current smokers, 4,614 former smokers, and 3,717 never smokers for a total of 13,031 records. Variables include: what type of tobacco products ever used; number of uses per day; attempt(s) to stop using a tobacco product; how difficult it was to stop using a tobacco product; the age the respondent first used a tobacco product; reasons for stopping use; and methods for stopping use.</p>
