Water samples were collected as part of the Pivers Island Coastal Observatory (PICO) time series adjacent to the Beaufort Inlet, Beaufort, NC, USA on a weekly basis for coastal sea surface water. Whole genome metagenomic reads were sequenced after DNA extraction. The study was designed to explore microbial response to natural disturbances (weather events) via metagenomics.
