A alkaliphilic and halotolerant Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus Ligninesis L1, which was isolated from the sediment samples of depth 3000 m benthal South China Sea, The strain L1T, grew well at a wide temperature and pH ranges, 10.0-50.0°C and 6-11.5, with an optimum at 30°C and pH 9.0, respectively. Strain L1 able to utilize lignin as sole carbon source, which have a potential industrial value.
