In this project we performed long-read sequencing of the ciliate T. utriculariae and its endosymbiotic algae, M. tetrahymenae, and two of their closest relatives, T. malaccensis 23b and M. sp. CCAP 211/92 to identify patterns of co-evolution associated with an endosymbiotic life history strategy. Transcriptomes were also generated for each species to aid with gene model inference. A comparative transcriptomic study was performed to investigate which genes are differentially expressed under an endosymbiotic state in M. tetrahymenae.
