Index of Multiple Deprivation 2023 (IMD2023)

This is the 2023 version of the NZ Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). The IMD comprises indicators obtained from Statistics New Zealand's Integrated Data Infrastructure grouped into 7 Domains (Employment, Income, Crime, Housing, Health, Education, Geographic Access) which are combined to create the IMD - an overall pattern of area deprivation in NZ.For the 2023 Index, we used Statistical Area 2 (SA2) geographic boundaries to represent 'neighbourhoods'.We calculated deprivation for each Domain and ranked neighbourhoods in ascending order from 1 (least deprived) to 2286 (Most deprived). In some cases, there were areas that were ranked the same, so the minimum or maximum numbers may not be the same for each Domain, due to the ties in the dataset.Ranks for each Domain and the overall IMD have also been converted to deciles, with decile 1 representing the least deprived 10% of areas in NZ, and decile 10 the most deprived 10%.More information about the IMD2023, including links to interactive geospatial atlases, publications and reports is available from http://www.fmhs.auckland.ac.nz/imdGeocoding and on-demand deprivation and demographic profiles can be accessed at https://imdmap.auckland.ac.nz
