Use of Disruptive Technologies to Support Safety Analysis and Meet New Federal Requirements (04-113)

Virginia Dataset Project Description: In this task, the research team developed safety performance functions (SPFs) for several low-volume roadway functional classes in Virginia. Additionally, sensitivity analysis was conducted to show how over/under-estimated annual average daily traffic (AADT) values can affect the results of network screening. Data Scope: The dataset consists of AADT, crash records, and other roadway characteristics for five years (2014-2018) at 3,617 NFAS road segments in Virginia. Data Specification: The spreadsheet (Virginia_SPF_Data.xlsx) describes the data including the data type, source, description and coding of categorical variables, and number of missing values. Texas Dataset Project Description: In this task, the research team developed safety performance functions (SPFs) for several low-volume roadway functional classes in Texas. Additionally, sensitivity analysis was conducted to show how over/under-estimated AADT values can affect the results of network screening. The research team used two separate databases to develop the final dataset for analysis: Texas Roadway Highway Inventory Network Offload (RHiNO) [2018] Texas Crash Records Information System (CRIS) [2014-2018] Data Scope: Dataset contains segment level information for roadway geometry (e.g., segment length, lane width, shoulder width), traffic volume, and crash counts by different severity levels. Dataset has been developed three low-volume roadways: Rural minor collector roadways (6R) [14,689 segments, 14,544 lane miles] Rural local roadways (7R) [162,275 segments, 134,244 lane miles] Urban local roadways (7U) [315,924 segments, 72,665 lane miles] Data Specification: The spreadsheet (Texas_SPF_Data.xlsx) contains detailed description including the data type, variable description, source of the data and the number of missing values.
