Animal Collections Of The Department of Zoology- Nasarawa State University Keffi

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) is a young university situated in the middle belt region of Nigeria. The University has accomplished incomparable goals in academic and research within its short time of birth. The Department of zoology where the specimens were recorded is one of the leading departments in the institution, it housed over 3,500 animal specimens ranging from the domestics to the wild species including insects, birds, reptiles, mammals etc. The source of many of these animal specimens include field survey into the university zoological garden, established conservation institutions in Jos, the Plateau state capital which includes Pandam wildlife Park/Lake and the long established Jos wildlife park. In addition, collections is in progress by Practical students, project students and staff of the department and other sister department of the University like the Department of Forestry and Wildlife and the Department of Animal science of the Faculty of Agriculture Shabu- Lafia campus. The data set has 54 records of animal collections which consist of 42 Families, 47 Genera and 49 Species collected between 1985-2018.
