Transcription Pausing in E. coli. Escherichia coli str. K-12 substr. MG1655

Using native elongating transcript sequencing (NET-seq) we analyze transcription elongation pausing genome wide in vivo in Escherichia coli. The results identify a consensus in vivo pause-inducing sequence element (5’-GN8RG-3’). In addition, we characterize the effect of sequence-specific interactions between conserved residues of the RNAP core enzyme and non-template strand bases comprising the core recognition element (CRE) on pausing in Escherichia coli.
