Genome sequencing of 22 Mexican Ustilago maydis isolates

In this study, 22 Mexican Ustilago maydis wild-type isolates from five different regions were considered. They are part of an earlier published strain collection (Valverde et al., 2000, World Journal of Microbiology & Biotechnology 16, 49-55). Their genomes were sequenced (Illumina paired-end) and were together with the previously published Ustilago maydis isolate 521 (Kamper et al. 2006, Nature 444, 97-101) used for population genomics analyses.
