Stellar flares are the most dramatic examples of variability that a cool star will experience while on the main sequence, and recent studies are highlighting the importance of particle acceleration for flares in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Within the last several years results have indicated that flaring millimeter emission appears to be an apparently common feature of stellar flares which had been missed. The same stars seen to flare at mm wavelengths also display flares at longer, cm wavelengths. It is currently an open question how flares in these wavelength ranges relate to each other, particularly as both cm and mm flares require the presence of accelerated particles. This proposal seeks observations of the known cm- and mm-wave flaring star AU Mic to provide simultaneous constraints over almost two decades in radio frequency. Such observations are needed to advance models of stellar radio flares. We request 14 hours of observing time, broken into 4 3.5 hour segments, when the star is visible at SMA, JCMT, ALMA, JVLA, and ATCA observatories. Optical observations have been approved through LCOGT at no additional time penalty for arranging simultaneity. This time request should encompass at least a few flares for this ambitious, first-of-its-kind ultrawide band study of particle acceleration in stellar flares.
