Supplementary tables for The downy oak forests of the Mecsek Mountains [Tamo-Quercetum virgilianae (Horvát, 1946) Borhidi & Morschhauser in Borhidi & Kevey, 1996].

This study examines the associations of downy oak forests (Tamo-Quercetum virgilianae Horvát, 1946) located in the Mecsek Mountains of southwestern Hungary, utilising data from 50 coeno-logical surveys. Although the mountains are situated within the hornbeam-oak climate zone, many of the surveyed stands are on steeper southern slopes; this association is extrazonal. These forests are character-ised by a significant presence of dry oak forest elements (Quercetea pubescentis petraeae, Quercetalia cerridis, etc.). The association is notably influenced by sub-Mediterranean conditions, as indicated by the presence of certain sub-Mediterranean Aremonio-Fagion and Quercion farnetto-like species, including Asperula taurina, Genista ovata ssp. nervata, Helleborus odorus, Lathyrus venetus, Lonicera caprifoli-um, Luzula forsteri, Paeonia banatica, Rosa arvensis, Ruscus aculeatus, Scutellaria altissima, Tamus communis, and Tilia tomentosa. This association is classified within the "Fraxino orno-Quercenion pu-bescentis Kevey 2008" subgroup of the Syntaxonomy system.
