Understanding the effects of genetic factors interacting with individual variations in muscle strength, quality and functionality would be relevant to improve understanding of the presence of sarcopenia in older adults. The significance of genetic information for the risk prediction of sarcopenia was investigated in the present study. We tested whether the individual polymorphism in the Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), Alpha-actinin-3 (ACTN3), Nuclear respiratory factor 2 (NRF2), Vitamin D receptor (VDR FokI), Adrenoceptor beta 2 (ADRB2), C-X3-C motif chemokine receptor 1 (CX3CR1), and Neuronal PAS domain protein 4 (NPAS4) genes are associated with sarcopenia in older adults. The genotype distributions of all gene polymorphisms in the control group and in the sarcopenic group is presented in the experimental dataset.
