Capture Events and CLIWOC Weather Observations for "Wind-Bound and Taken": North Carolina Waters, 1776–1783
收藏资源简介:
Derived dataset for the working conference paper "Wind-Bound and Taken? Testing Weather as a Capture Risk in North Carolina Waters, 1776–1783" (Feilian Huang & Yujia Liu; prepared for ESEH 2027). Contents: 58 manually geocoded Admiralty Prize Papers (TNA, HCA 32) capture events in North Carolina waters, 1776–1783 (capture_events.csv, with HCA references, coordinates and confidence flags); 24,014 parsed daily wind/weather observations from 428 CLIWOC 2.1 cruises (cliwoc_obs.csv); cruise manifest; case-crossover matching results; full numerical output including a stratified (Cochran–Mantel–Haenszel) analysis; geocoding log; and the complete Python analysis pipeline. Key result: the pre-specified case-crossover test of weather against capture risk returns a null result (3 distinct hazard observations vs 130 controls after deduplication; no signal on wind direction/force, calm, gale, rain, or fog). The paper reports the null in full and proposes a redesign led by the capturing warships' own logs (ADM 51/52). Derived data: CC-BY-4.0. CLIWOC 2.1 source data © the CLIWOC team, CC-BY-3.0.
