Dataset for the project “Targeting inflammation in depression using minocycline: a patient stratification approach using peripheral inflammatory biomarkers, PET and MRI”. Italian Ministry of Health, Italy, Ricerca Finalizzata (Grant RF-2018-12365308)

Specific Aim 1:

To recruit 60 depressed patients who have failed to respond to a current treatment with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), as well as to another SSRI in the past, and show increased peripheral inflammation (serum CRP>2 mg/L);

Specific Aim 2:

To evaluate improvements in depressive symptoms and changes in peripheral and central inflammation (microglia with 11CPK PET) after 8 weeks of treatment with Minocycline added to their current SSRI;

Specific Aim 3:

To assess in all the included patients the effects of 8 weeks of treatment with Minocycline added to their current SSRI on structural, functional and molecular brain MRI features via brain MRI, and to evaluate whether changes in these brain MRI measures and in peripheral inflammation biomarkers, reflect changes in central (microglia) inflammation and correlate with improvement in depressive symptoms.
