Plastic waste exported from the UK 2023, by main country

Turkey was the largest destination for UK plastic waste exports in 2023, having received more than 140,000 metric tons of shipments. The Netherlands ranked second, with over 116,500 thousand metric tons. The amount of plastic waste exported by the UK to non-OECD countries, such as Malaysia, has fallen significantly as a result of recent changes to the Basel Convention. This has led to the Netherlands and Turkey emerging as top destinations for UK plastic waste.
