Whole genome sequencing of Neisseria gonorrhoeae transformants with reduced cephalosporin susceptibility. Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Several clinical isolates of Neisseria gonorrhoeae with reduced susceptibility to cephalosporins lack known resistance-associated mutations. To identify the loci contributing to resistance in these strains, we transformed a cephalosporin-susceptible isolate with genomic DNA or candidate mutations from these resistant isolates. We then sequenced the genomes of transformants that inherited phenotypic reduced susceptibility to identify the responsible loci.
