This dataset supports the study “Relaxation pathways in X-ray Free Electron Laser heated Iron” by Ansia et al. (2025), available at https://doi.org/10.1103/1qp9-mjn8 Structure The dataset is organized into three main directories based on the photon energy of the incident XFEL radiation: 72/ → 7.2 keV 73/ → 7.3 keV 78/ → 7.8 keV Each of these contains multiple simulation folders named using the following format: {type}_{cross_section}_{intensity} Where: type is either non_thermal or thermal cross_section is either CI_MShell_0.1 or CI_MShell_1 intensity refers to the incident photon intensity and can be 1e17, 1e18, 1e19, or 1e20 (W/cm²) File Descriptions Each simulation folder contains the following files: fort.320 – Electron distribution over time emiss_dt.out – Spectral emission evolution as a function of time complex.out – Time evolution of complex ion populations rates.out – Atomic rates versus time z0 – Average ionization state versus time t0 – Temperature versus time Citation Please cite the original publication when using this dataset: Ansia, L., Velarde, P., Fajardo, M., & Williams, G.
