Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) in the Atlantic Ocean from CTD casts, Garrett screen surface microlayer, and non-toxic underway water supply samples collected during AMT24 (JR20140922/JR303) between September and November 2014.

This dataset originates from the Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) analysis of samples collected in the upper 500 m of the Atlantic Ocean, during the cruise AMT24 (JR20140922/JR303). Samples were collected using 20 L Niskin bottles, non-toxic water supply and a Garrett screen surface micro-layer sampler. Immediately following collection, 20 ml subsamples were transferred into ground glass syringes (SAMCO) and gently filtered (10 ml min-1) through 0.22 um surfactant-free single use Luer-Lok syringe filters. Samples were stored in pre-combusted aluminium envelopes, flash-frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at -80 degrees Celsius. CDOM spectra were captured using a single beam UV-Visible high-performance liquid core waveguide (LCW) spectrophotometer (Ultrapath UV). The samples were recorded over the wavelength range 275-700 nm at 1 nm resolution against 36 g L-1 sodium chloride (NaCl).
