PROTEIN, CERAMIC RESIDUE, AND FTIR ANALYSIS ON ARTIFACTS FROM HUDSON EAST SITE 3BE714, BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS

The Hudson East Site, 3BE714, is situated in a pasture located within a floodplain adjacent to Spring Creek. Although this site exhibits evidence of occupation spanning Dalton through middle Woodland occupation, this project examines material from feature 11, and early Woodland pit containing a ceramic sherd and Snyders point. The ceramic sherd was examined for pollen, phytolith, starch, and FTIR evidence of foods cooked in the vessel it represents. A second sample, representing a projectile point recovered from Level 12 in Unit UU3, was examined for a protein residue signature of use.
