New Zealand ICESat-2 Derived Beach Slopes

This dataset proposes a new method driven by the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) ATL03 product to estimate the coastal slope of beaches by considering the photon characteristics and beach morphology of ICESat-2. We calculated the coastal slopes of 1297 profiles from 212 beaches in New Zealand, and our results showed that our method has high accuracy in inverting beach slopes (root mean square error (RMSE)=0.06, coefficient of determination (R ²)=0.76). In the future, this method may be applied globally using ICESat-2 data and become a valuable tool for estimating global beach and coastal slopes.
